➡️ The Norwegian Offshore Directorate (NOD) has just announced the results of the “Jotun Deep” wildcat well in the Heimdal area of the North Sea. The well was dry.
➡️ The well targeted the Statfjord FM reservoirs in the Late Triassic – Early Jurassic. The targeted reservoirs were found but water wet. This result raises questions about the hydrocarbon migration and “fill and spill” for U-Triassic to M-Jurassic targets in the Heimdal Terrace area (when major fault movements, uplift and erosional history, and fluid distribution for the wider area are considered). Well 25/8-2 (at a shallower depth) also targeted the Statfjord FM and was dry (see attached map). This could have implications for other identified Statfjord FM leads and prospects in the area. Of course, this is just one of the likely scenarios to be considered in the post-drill review for the dry well.
